This grant provides $30,000 to assist the district in developing a community risk assessment, community risk reduction plan, and standard of coverage.

The district's initiative to pursue grants and other one-time funding consistent with the district’s mission and strategic goals aids us in achieving our strategic goal to ensure adequate and sustainable funding.

Restoring the fire levy to $1.50/$1000 of assessed value will help us improve community safety by providing more reliable staffing and allowing the district to save funds for replacement of our aging fleet of fire apparatus.

Each ballot measure is presented to voters in a specific jurisdiction. For example, the cities of Camas and Washougal have bond measures on the ballot. These are separate measures being presented to the voters in those cities. Proposition 5, Ease County Fire and Rescue's fire levy lid lift to restore the district's levy rate to $1.50/$1000 of assessed value will provide funds for staffing and replacement of aging apparatus. This ballot measure is only presented to voters in the East County Fire and Rescue District. East County's Proposition 5 does not have anything to do with the fire station bond measures presented to the voters in Camas and Washougal.

Remember that ballots are due August 6th and must be postmarked or returned to a drop box by 8 pm to be counted.

Structure fires grow quickly creating life threatening conditions in minutes and quickly cause severe damage to property. Rapid response minimizes risk. For medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, stroke, and major trauma immediate intervention is also crucial. Temporary closure of Station 94 on SE 352nd Avenue due to lack of staffing results in increased response time that can seriously impact the fire and emergency incident outcomes.

Transitioning to increased full-time staffing at Stations 91 and 94 would reduce response times and be an investment in the reliability and efficiency of services crucial to our community's well-being. This approach would ensure that your fire and rescue services remain ready, responsive, and financially responsible, reflecting the values we all share for a safe and secure community.

However, almost half of our fire engines and water tenders have reached the end of service life and will require replacement. The expense of maintaining the district's aging fleet of three fire engines and three water tenders continues to increase. We must purchase replacements and prefer to pay cash instead of financing these purchases, saving taxpayers money in interest payments. This requires that the district have the fiscal resources to meet current operational expenses and to put money aside for future capital expenditures such as fire apparatus replacement.
