The City of Tucson will break ground on major improvements at Santa Rita Park on Thursday, April 24, at 9 a.m., at 401 E. 22nd St. (enter off 21st Street due to park closure). The nearly $8 million investment—funded by Prop 407 bond funds, General Fund Framework dollars, a Tohono O’odham Nation Gaming Grant, and Impact Fees—will bring a splash pad, shaded playground, walking paths, new restrooms, event plaza, and public art, including mosaic benches designed by an Arizona artist and fabricated by local students. Over 300 trees and shrubs will be planted, a modern irrigation system installed, and 3rd Avenue permanently closed to expand green space. The existing softball field will be reconfigured to include multipurpose fields, and a new parking lot will improve access. Construction fencing goes up on April 21, 2025, with project completion expected by summer 2026.

Residents from Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off materials. Card payments accepted only!

➡The City hosts Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events on the second Saturday of every month. Join us for our next one Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Eastside City Hall located at 7820 E. Broadway Blvd.

🌞Due to extreme temperatures and the safety of our employees, HHW will be taking a pause on Saturday collection events during the summer. Thank you for your understanding! HHW will be on Saturday, May 10 at Jacobs Park and resume on Saturday, September 13 at Pima Community College East.

🔋 We want to encourage residents to properly dispose of their batteries at HHW to protect our trash truck workers and landfill operators. City residents can also drop off paint, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, electronic waste (E-waste), paper documents for shredding (limit 3 boxes), cleaning products, and pool chemicals at no charge. Unknown chemicals will not be accepted. Dried paint and alkaline batteries can be disposed in your home trash can.

City residents can also drop off HHW at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus at 5300 E. Los Reales Road on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Due to the collection event, the Los Reales HHW Drop-off will not be open on Saturday.

☣️ Please check the list of what the HHW program accepts before dropping items off. Medical waste, such as sharps, syringes, or old medications, is not allowed. Do not bring business or commercial waste, commercial gas cylinders, explosives or ammunition, infectious and radioactive waste, dried paint, or CRT monitors.

🤓 For more information on the HHW program and 2025 dates, visit tucsonaz.gov/hhw

Thanks to Tucson Delivers Proposition 407 bond funding, Silverlake Park will soon receive a new walking path connection, new covered basketball court, and resurfaced parking lots. Mirasol Park will soon receive lighting and electrical improvements, a resurfaced parking lot, landscape enhancements, a new comfort station - and a whole new way to play!

Come see what the design team comes up with at the Egg Hop Event on Saturday, April 5 from 8-10 a.m. at Quincie Douglas Center. We’ll have a booth set up with interactive games for kids and an opportunity to provide feedback on the two play designs. If you can’t make it to the event, no worries! We’ll post a video walk-through of the two options following the event, and we’ll check back in with our youth play experts to see what they think of the options.

Take the survey below by Sunday, April 27, to provide your input on the next playgrounds at Silverlake and Mirasol parks!

Survey: https://arcg.is/1mmHia3 (deadline: Sunday, April 27)
